The German Order was awarded to Nazi Party leaders and high-ranking military officers, and was intended as the highest order for Germans. Only 10 were awarded in the various classes. Many of the recipients, including Fritz Todt and Reinhard Heydrich, received the honor immediately following their deaths, resulting in the colloquial reference for the decoration as the “Order of the Dead.” This quality reproduction of the 3rd Class decoration is produced in black, red and white enamels and gold-colored gilt. The design is a cross pattee with the senior party badge at the center, and the national eagle and swastika between the arms of the cross.
